The start of a new year brings new energy and positivity, and the TSiBA Scholarship Ceremony was just the occasion to witness the arrival of masses of vitality on campus. The formal handover of scholarships marks the start of a life-changing academic journey for TSiBA’s 2015 new intake students. For many, they are the first in their families, or communities, to study at tertiary level and our Dean Pearl Pugin encouraged them to “show up”, in the truest sense of the word, each and every day. The arrival of 199 new students on our 2 campuses indeed marked an inspiring start to 2015.
Another highlight of the first quarter has been the announcement of the 2015 Bronze Ministerial Youth Excellence Award: Youth in Rural and Farm Areas for TSiBA Eden. The awards were hosted by the Western Cape Department of Social Development in partnership with the Impumelelo Social Innovations Centre. This acknowledgement of our work further inspires us to drive change and pursue excellence.
During 2015 we will continue to live out our commitment to Igniting Opportunity and Paying it Forward.
And we have a super team of staff and volunteers to ensure excellent delivery to our students. This year saw a record number of new volunteers coming forward to contribute towards social change by lecturing, tutoring and mentoring – well over 100 volunteers nationally! It’s wonderful to see a growing interest in our cause year on year. Walking through the passages, entering classrooms in action, watching extra tutor groups being helped by volunteers – the energy is palpable and the enthusiasm infectious. A warm and humble appreciation to each of you for the value you bring to our students’ journey.
Thank you to all our stakeholders for continuing to drive change with us.
