I can rightfully boast that we have the most beautiful estuary in South Africa. Yes, it’s actually the “Knysna Estuary”, not the “Knysna Lagoon” because The Heads provide a channel for the partly enclosed water to reach the sea. In fact, it used to be called Featherbed Bay as it provided calm waters to sailors escaping rough seas.
The Knysna Estuary is a big part of our lives. Our suburbs border it or look down on it, from Hornlee and Hunter’s Home through White Location and Knysna Heights to Belvidere and Brenton-On-Sea. On it’s shores, you will find the Knysna Waterfront, Leisure Island and Thesen Island with a mecca of restaurant choices for locals and tourists (whom i suggest should catch a boat ride).
