Knysna Primary is proud to be the new host for the bi-annual Knysna Arts Event as from 2012.
The Knysna Arts Event is a full-fledged Eisteddfod focusing on individuals and groups involved in the performing and visual arts in our area. In 2012 we are going to have adjudicators at the top of their field in experience and instruction and we welcome entries from all over the Garden route and beyond! This prestigious event will take place during the weeks of 21 May – 2 June 2012.
The FOUR main sections for entry will be MUSIC, SPEECH & DRAMA, DANCE and VISUAL ART.
“Our desire is for this event to be attractive and accessible to all sectors and all ages of our communities,” says Michael van der Walt, coordinator of this year’s Eisteddfod, “Not only to school age candidates, but also to adults, whether amateur or professional. As this is the first time Knysna Primary is organising this event, we have hopes for it to grow into a significant festival for our area. We have some great adjudicators on board this year and the whole event promises to be a unique and memorable one for Knysna.”
The Dance section will include Conventional & Ballet categories as well as Modern & Tap, and will be open for entries to candidates of all ages. The new Visual Art section will be open for entries to all children up to the age of 14 in 2012, as this is the first year we’re incorporating this section. During the weeks of the Eisteddfod, some of the finest Visual Art entries (already adjudicated by that time) will be on display at the Eisteddfod venues. The Speech & Drama section will be open to all ages for entries in categories under the three subsections of Individual Recitation, Speech Choir and Mimicry. Along with the conventional genres within the Music section for individual and choral entries, we are excited to extend the categories to encompass contemporary popular genres, including (but not limited to) African, Rock & Jazz, and so open the platform for a greater variety of musical instruments and combination of such, for both conventional and traditional instruments. The standard categories for orchestras and ensembles will then be extended to include a new category for Rock and Jazz Bands. There will also be various categories for own composition entries in the Music and Speech & Drama sections.
Closing date for all entries and submission of all entry forms: Friday, 23 March 2012.
Closing date for submission of Visual Artworks: Friday, 4 May 2012.
