Yacht Kairos - Knysna 500 catamaran

Kairos, the Knysna 500 yacht, docked beside the ferry on Knysna Waterfront. Graham and Fiona will be promoting this incredible catamaran and Knysna as they sail around the world.

The Knysna Waterfront was abuzz with the launch of Kairos, an A-Class yacht (ocean-going). It’s a Knysna 500 model, catamaran, only the second built, and is set to be a flagship for our town when presented at boat shows around the world. The Knysna Historical Society was there to document the moment.

The Kairos yacht is a partnership between Graham Hood and the Knysna Yacht Company. Graham searched the world for one and a half years for the right builder. He stated that being ex-Royal Navy, businessman and accountant, his decision was made analytically. “In fact, South Africa had the top 3 builders,” he said, “and the Knysna Yacht Company was the best.”

Graham made many trips to Knysna and, for the past 3 months, stayed at Mount Joy Cottages so that he could have a hands-on approach to the boat that will be his, and his girlfriend Fiona’s, home and dream.

Kairos will initially undergo trials in the Knysna Estuary and along the coast towards Buffalo Bay. Thereafter, trips to Cape Town and Durban will prepare Kairos for a cross-atlantic voyage to the Caribbean and Miami, USA. From there, they will head to the Mediterranean which will become their main base so that they can be closer to family in Europe. Fiona and Graham have fallen in love with Knysna, the prettiest town in South Africa, and have promised to keep returning.
