The Bundu Café and Knysna Glampackers (backpackers) has opened next to Knysna’s Main Road (N2), opposite the Knysna Mall.
THE BUNDU CAFÉ
This African inspired, no fuss dining experience is a most welcome addition to our town’s culinary offerings. Paying homage to all things local and lekker – they dish up good food together with good vibes.
It is situated in the central hub of Knysna in a converted old house on Main Street dating back to the 1940’s. The décor throughout is delightfully eclectic, housing in each room an incredible and often quirky collection of African art, artefacts and memorabilia. There is something interesting to look at in every nook and cranny.
The restaurant extends out the back of the building into a rustic open-kitchen style dining area, which gives this restaurant a very welcoming, and somewhat homely ambiance. The warmth from the open fire, the sounds of music, the smells, and the sights of cooking, really serve to pique your appetite and your mood.
Diners can expect to indulge in a variety of understated yet delicious traditional food dishes, many of which are cooked, in typical South African tradition, on an open wood fire on a grill or in a cast iron pot. The menu changes frequently, but people can look forward to dishes such as Durban curry, Bobotie, Pot bread and meat, chicken or fish platters with potato wedges. Their house salad is also superb by the way!
This is a small and intimate dining experience with a capacity for no more than 20 diners – therefore bookings are essential! The restaurant is open Wednesday- Saturdays. They are not licensed so guests may take their own wines.
For restaurant bookings, call Gordon & Janie on 072 732 2160.
ANTIQUES, FURNITURE AND ART

Knysna Glampacker lies next to the restaurant @52 on Main. It was previously a backpackers, but they have since artfully transformed it into a trendy but relaxed GlamPackers. Guests get to enjoy traditional style South African breakfasts served at the Bundu Café. Book through Airbnb.
