South Africa’s premier motorsport festival takes place in Knysna from 11 to 20 May. It is the Knysna Speed Festival and it is going to be a blast! Ten days of Karting, Extreme 4×4, 4×4 Eco Trails, Soap Box Derby, Motor Shows, a Classic Car Friday full of nostalgia and people dressed in period costume and the biggie! The Knysna Renault Simola Hillclimb – raw power unleashed on the hill in an explosion of noise, colour, power and skill. Competitors from around the country competing for the prestigious title “King of the Hill”.
To make it easier for people to attend the Hillclimb, there will be camping available at the Knysna High School sports fields, just minutes from the lagoon, on Friday 18, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20th May. The cost is only R 100 per site per night (remember to bring your tent – maximum four people per site) with ablution and shower facilities.
The campsite will have a carnival atmosphere – with bands, DJ’s, lots of food and drink. The concert on the Saturday night will blow away the dust from the afternoon’s racing and get everyone rocking and rolling. Called the Petrol Head Opskop, the concert will feature a selection of bands and DJ’s to make sure you do not stop moving. The line-up for the evening will be:
Rapid Auto Fire, Black and White Dogs, Unè van Zyl and her dancers “Love Dance” and rap artist, Elrico. Popular Lee Munati (Imix on Good Hope Fm), will be the guest DJ for the evening – and promises an exciting range of music for all ages. A Mitchell’s Brewery beer garden will ensure that no one goes thirsty.
To avoid traffic problems – there will be a shuttle from the campsite to the Hillclimb during the day. And if you want the ultimate festival experience, you can take a trip in a helicopter over the track and around Knysna.
To get a taste of what to expect, watch the official Knysna Speed Festival video (above) which features the first official song for the Knysna Speed Festival. Featuring RAF, the song “One on One” is high energy, like the cars it represents. Catch RAF on their Facebook site at “Rapid-Auto-Fire”. RAF will be featured live at our music festival at the campsite on Saturday 19th May.
Further information about the festival and camping can be found on the festival’s website www.speedfestival.co.za.
