From Clay to Icing Cakes:)

Colette’s First Cake Becomes Dog Food

Over the past week, i’ve drunk a lot of coffee and tea at Chaplin’s Coffee Bar in Woodmill Lane (i’ll be sure to inform you of their new menu coming up soon). There, during this time, i noticed Colette’s new found, baking hobby which she, as a beginner, is surprisingly good at! She definitely brings the painter in her to the table (pun intended). So when i saw her latest blog at Colette’s Comment, i nabbed it for here. This ones for the ladies…but men can eat too:) – Wicked Mike.

I discovered a new talent… or at least another creative outlet that I will enjoy developing.

I have always loved to play with clay and I have now discovered the sweetness of fondant icing. When i first felt it in my hands, I was delighted as it was so lovely to manipulate. Thus began my research on how to make my own. Soon my kitchen looked like a confectionery haven!

I made bows and flowers before my first cake. This was not at all 1  2  3. I had to feel it, understand it (the chemistry of it too), and from there release my inner creativity. I made a 2-tier cake and fixed my delicate purple and pink flowers on top. I had one more thing to try – ribbons of fondant for running down the side. But the day had run out and I had an engagement elsewhere. So i left my cake on the counter and decided to return to complete it in the evening.

When I got home, i discovered that my dogs had found it and were in full appreciation of my creation! Initial shock gave way to laughter. It certainly looked pretty enough for them to eat:)

This event did not discourage me though so here i am going to share pictures of cake #2 and #3 with you. I have so many more to try make… I am loving the challenge and creative blast! So much fun.
