BUFFALO BAY

Buffalo Bay (Buffelsbaai in Afrikaans) is for sea lovers. Long walks on clean beaches, swimming, fishing and photography are the order of the day. There’s even a mashie golf course at Black Waters.

What makes Buffalo Bay quite special is the fact that it falls within the Goukamma Nature Reserve (approximately 2500ha in size). It consists of a 14km coast and an adjacent, marine protected area that extends into the sea for 1.8km. It includes some of the highest, vegetated dunes in South Africa, a river, an estuary, and the landlocked Groenvlei Lake which, interestingly, has no river flowing into it.
