I love this part of Knysna so much that i had to debate with myself whether to share it with the world:)
It stretches from Brenton-on-Lake to Featherbed Nature Reserve on the Western Head. It’s mostly secluded so best to go with someone or as a group. If you do encounter anyone, it’s likely to be a fisherman and his family (who sometimes sleep on the beach overnight). The effect of the Knysna Estuary (misnamed by many as the Knysna Lagoon) tide has produced small beaches with their own identity. One is all pebbles so you’ll have to put you sandals on.
You’re bound to witness storks, cormorants, seagulls and Egyptian geese, even more so if you go early. Best to go at low tide as there’s more to see if you’re not knee-deep in water on the bends. The view of the Knysna Waterfront, Thesen Island, Leisure Island and The Heads has a remarkably different, beautiful emotion to it when you’re standing on a beach with bush at your back. You will feel a world away.
