by Stuart LavendarStuart Lavender is a registered professional Mechanical Engineer who after a life time of Engineering Design, Mathematics, Statistics and Project management retired to return to his alternative skills of drawing and painting. He lives in Knysna.

Music is an essential element of Stuart’s creative motivation. Many of his artworks are named after tracks he listened to that he found most influential or the ‘mood’ that developed during the process of the painting. Inspirational artists include U2, Steve Winwood, Pink Floyd and The Eagles.

Stuart progressed from brush work to exclusively using pallet knives (since 2010). The unique style combines painting with micro sculpting of the paint onto canvas in layers working wet on dry and wet on semi-dry to achieve images that project reflected views at different angles. This style cannot be replicated in a two dimensional photograph.

The Gallery is arranged by the themes of the paintings. Some of these are: Monochrome, Landscapes, Portraits, Rock Musicians and Nude Studies.

Stuart’s studio is adjacent to the gallery and works in progress can be seen.

A selection  of prints are available at the Gallery. One can also have the option to order a signed and numbered canvas print of an original painting seen in the gallery.

The Private Gallery is situated at 13 Andrew Ave, Rexford and is open for viewing by appointment:
