So well established, the Wild Oats Community Farmers Market and the Scarab Village Market are what most think of when it comes to Sedgefield, the suburb that lies 15km south of Knysna Central. Sedgefield shares the same uniqueness as Knysna in that the N2 cuts through the town, bringing much needed business to the town…and to the markets on Saturday mornings. As many as 4000 people attend which is almost bigger than the suburb itself. Fresh vegetables, German sausage, health rolls, biltong, good coffee, curios, arts and crafts, bands and more…it’s an extravaganza sure to put a smile on your face!
But Sedgefield has much more to offer. On one side, hills encourage paragliding. On the other, several pristine beaches and fossil sand dunes beckon. In between, there’s an abundance of lakes and rivers. It’s a natural paradise.
Sedgefield is South Africa’s first Cittaslow Town, a concept inspired by a slow-lane lifestyle that promotes appreciation of the moment and overall quality of life. A foundation of this is the annual Slow Festival in April. It’s a time for family fun, treasure hunts, hiking and delicious food.
