A young Knysna local is making a name for herself with her growing, toy-making business and new line of babywear.
Kayla Archer, owner of Humble Pie Design, who was born and raised in the beautiful town of Knysna, moved back home after 3 years of studying in Port Elizabeth. Unsure of her next move, Kayla started sewing dolls: “It was a fun pass time and my friends seemed to love them. I thought if I marketed them right they may go somewhere.”
After creating a small range which were stocked at HANDS Design Collective in Woodmill Lane, Kayla grew into the online market with HelloPretty and things started to take off.
“Most of my sales were through my Facebook account, mainly by friends of friends and distant family… but, after a few months, I started getting orders from all over South Africa. It was exciting to see new faces pop up – people who didn’t know me complimenting my designs. It’s a wonderful feeling!”
One year later and her business is ever growing. She’s released a baby range of unique, illustrated tee’s and onesies, with many more ideas for the near future: “Eventually I want will get into all things ‘little’. From clothing to decor to illustrated children’s books. There’s an endless road of goods to create and I’m excited to see where this path leads me.”
